THE PREMIER APPROACH: Review Your CBP Procedures
Has it been over a year since the prospect of flying internationally looked like a reality? Maybe it’s finally time to start reviewing some items. Let’s take a quick look at a few U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) issues to dust off and review.
DOES YOUR CBP BORDER OVERFLIGHT EXEMPTION (BOE) NEED TO BE RENEWED?
Review your BOE letter to see if it is still valid. A BOE is issued with a maximum two-year validity, so it may be time to renew. Remember you must operate per the conditions stated in the BOE letter that you hold. Send request to GA.Support@dhs.gov
DO YOU HAVE YOUR 2021 CBP DECAL?
It is an easy process to get your new decal, just follow the link here.
ARE YOU A VISA WAIVER PROGRAM (VWP) SIGNATORY CARRIER? IS IT TIME TO RENEW YOUR VWP?
The Visa Waiver Program allows certain foreign passengers to enter the U.S. without the need for them to obtain U.S. Visas. They must get authorization using the Electronic System for Travel Authorization (ESTA), and they must arrive on board a signatory carrier of the VWP. Whether you want to renew or apply for the first time, follow this link to start your application. Visa Waiver Program | U.S. Customs and Border Protection (cbp.gov)
ARE YOU READY TO REQUEST LANDING RIGHTS OR PERMISSION TO LAND FROM YOUR CBP PORT OF ARRIVAL?
Review your best practices for working with CBP to set up your arrival.
- All CBP arrangements must be confirmed BEFORE departure. This includes confirming any changes from the original information BEFORE departure.
- APIS must be sent and confirmed BEFORE departure. Changes to the APIS must be sent and confirmed BEFORE departure.
- Landing rights must be secured BEFORE departure. Landing rights must be reconfirmed BEFORE departure if there are changes.
- Changes to the schedule, etc. (with the exception of true inflight situations, like weather diverts and medical emergencies) must be arranged and confirmed BEFORE departure.
It is critical that APIS information match the documentation that is presented on arrival. Whether it be passports, Permanent Resident cards, or BOE’s.
IF YOU ARE NOT CERTAIN ABOUT SOMETHING, ASK!
Almost every time someone gets in trouble with customs, it is because they made an incorrect assumption. And it is almost always something that could have been cleared up by just asking.
