Aviation Weather November 20, 2024
Happy Wednesday!
F1 race preferred routes have been published and should be followed through Tuesday for aircraft arriving and departing LAS/VGT/HND/BVU. Duplicate flight plans to multiple airport destinations will be removed and no enroute change of destinations within 200 miles of the Las Vegas Terminal airspace will be permitted. Flight plans should be filed at least 4 hours prior to departure. PPR numbers should be included in the remark’s sections of each flight plan. Combination of a Pacific bomb cyclone and an atmospheric river will bring very heavy rain and mountain snow from Northern California to British Columbia over the next days. In fact, critical weather days have been implemented through Friday morning for portions of coastal NW CA due to very heavy rain with amounts of 16 inches possible. Per our agent in India an ADC number (Air defense Clearance) will be provided by them and will be relayed directly to the captain for filing if asked by atc. Expect delays into CYVR through the 25th as only one runway is open – 08L/26R will be closed until 15z on the 25th.
Tropical outlook
West Pacific / Indian Ocean basin – TC Bheki, 300 miles East of Port Louis, Mauritius, moving West at 15 knots will weaken rapidly over the next few days under highly unfavorable upper air conditions. It will pass very close to La Reunion at 12z tomorrow. No impacts expected.
Atlantic – East Pacific – no suspect areas.
US Severe thunderstorm weather outlook – no significant severe weather episodes are likely for the next seven days.
Europe outlook – a fairly strong area of low pressure will be located over Western France tomorrow afternoon, along with South side of the Polar jet stream. This will bring significant impacts to portions of France, Germany, Switzerland and Austria with periods of moderate to heavy snow. It is expected to weaken by Friday with brief heavy snow to the Balkans by then. By Saturday, very deep area of low pressure well to the West of Ireland will promote very gusty SW winds to much of Ireland and UK with heavy rain at times. Heavy morning snow will be likely in higher elevations of Scotland before turning over to rain later on the day. I would expect alerts and warnings to be issued for this portion of the UK.
North Atlantic jet stream forecast – primary jet will remain displaced to the South on Friday with another core from Southern Greenland to France.
