Reminder that GA traffic at TNCM will be limited to 4 aircraft/hour between the hours of 16 and 21z daily until the 10th of January beginning 12/20. Please see notam A0744/24. Nighttime runway closure at HPN has been cancelled. EGLF will be closed from 22z on the 24th of DEC through 07z on the 27th. Christmas week across the CONUS and Southern Canada will feature above normal temperatures for the most part as a general Pacific flow will continue. Delays continue entering Gander Oceanic airspace for Eastbound flights – delays are averaging 30 to 60 minutes between 01 and 06z nightly. Reason – implemented due to oceanic clearance removal. Significant sandstorm is ongoing in portions of Northwestern Africa with the haze and dust making it to the Canary Islands and Sal Island. Typical haze and smoke in Northern India with VIDP forecasting 50 meters visibility tonight.
No critical weather days are expected through the weekend and no geomagnetic storms are forecasted.
Tropical outlook
West Pacific / Indian Ocean basin – invest area 96W, located 175 miles NE of Davao has a medium chance of developing over the next 24 hours. Latest computer models indicate very slow development (if any) over the next 48-72 hours.
US Severe thunderstorm weather outlook – no significant severe weather outbreaks are forecast for the next seven days.
Europe outlook – a fairly active period is setting up for the continent. First cold front and associated sharp upper-level trough will be located over Central France tomorrow bringing gusty NW winds to the UK and France and periods of snow to the alps through early Friday morning. A closed low will develop Thursday night to the South of Nice, France and will quickly move to the SE on Friday affecting Corsica/Sardinia and portions of Western Italy with mountain snow and gusty surface winds and rain at lower elevations. Snow will also occur in the Balkans. On Saturday, deep low pressure well North of Scotland will push a strong cold front through the UK with gusty winds once again. Very strong NW winds expected at LFML on the back side of this low on Thursday night and Friday with gusts > 55 knots possible. Would expect ATC delays all over this region Thursday night and Friday.
North Atlantic jet stream forecast – on Friday, a general Southwesterly flow will continue with velocities from 100 to 125 knots. By Sunday, an upper-level trough over Quebec and a closed upper-level low North of the Canary Islands will allow for a continuation of a Southwesterly flow aloft for the most part.
