Aviation Weather December 3, 2025

Good Wednesday Morning,

LGIR, Heraklion, Greece will close its main runway 09/27 from 01/19 to 09/26 for resurfacing per notam A3988/25. Shorter runway 12/30 (5138 feet) will remain open for day operations. If operating into VNY over the next several weeks might want to pay particular attention to the runway closures that typically begin Sunday nights through Thursday morning. BUR remains a good alternate option. Expect periods of light snow and fog in the Denver area today which is likely going to lead to lengthy delays. Satellite airports might be better options if planning into this region through this evening. LSGG has published their normal ski season notam (A0706/25) essentially saying you cannot plan lsgg as an alternate Friday/Saturday/Sunday and Monday mornings until the end of March. Orange and yellow warnings continue for much of Nova Scotia and Newfoundland through tonight for very gusty winds and heavy snow along with low to very low ifr conditions.

Critical weather days / geomagnetic storm outlook – no critical weather days through Friday. Moderate (G2) geomagnetic storm is likely through Thursday.

CONUS severe weather outlook – severe weather threat remains very low for the next seven days.

Tropical weather outlook – no storms are likely through at least Friday.

Europe outlook – on Friday, very deep low pressure will be located 400 miles NW of Shannon, Ireland, with an occluded front extending from the low to Western Ireland to just NW of Northern Portugal. This storm will result in gusty SW winds over the UK and Western France on Friday along with periods of showers.  On Saturday, the deep low will remain nearly stationary, while the front will extend into central Germany to Northern Spain. Expected a continued chance for showers over much of Western Europe, with light snow in the Alps.

North Atlantic jet stream analysis – on Friday, a zonal flow will continue with the primary jet from IAD to Brest, France with velocities at times exceeding 150 knots. Expect little change in this overall pattern through early next week.
