Aviation Weather April 14, 2025

Good Monday Morning,

Expect increased traffic across the US this week with a busy holiday schedule in effect. Major runway closure at EWR. (04L/22R) will be closed until the 15th of June. This may create more traffic headaches at this very busy airport. MRLB continues to have restricted hours through the 26 of April.

Critical weather days / geomagnetic storm outlook – no critical weather days through Thursday morning. A potential G2 (moderate) geomagnetic storm is possible on Wednesday.

Tropical cyclone outlook – TC 29S, 250 miles West of Broome, Australia is nearly stationary. It is expected to intensify rapidly over the next 48 hours under nearly ideal conditions and will likely move in a general Westerly direction staying away from the Australian Coastline. TC 30P, 150 miles North of Port Vila, Vanuatu, is expected to track right over Port Vila in the next 6 hours as a fairly weak tropical storm. It will then continue to move South very quickly as a moderately strong tropical storm. It will pass to the East of Noumea.

CONUS severe weather outlook – little more active this week with a slight risk of severe thunderstorms today from SDF to BWI. Tuesday and Wednesday look to be fairly quiet at this time.

Europe outlook – after weeks of quiet weather a low-pressure area will be located over the extreme Southern UK/Northern France at 12z Tuesday with a front extending from the low to Southern France. This will likely bring periods of heavy rain to portions of the UK, but no Thunderstorms are forecast. By 12z Wednesday, the low will stall North of the London area, while another area of low pressure develops along the front to the South of Marseille. Heavy rain and mountain snow is forecast for this region of France and the Alps with possible thunderstorms over Italy. In fact, ESTOFEX has issued a level one alert for possible severe thunderstorms with hail, heavy rain and gusty winds for Tuesday from SE France to Northern Algeria.

North Atlantic jet stream forecast – on Wednesday, an upper level low over Western Quebec and an upper-level trough over France will help promote fairly light winds generally North of 50N.
