Good Wednesday Morning,
ASE, Aspen airport, will close at 9am on May 5th and re-open at 7pm on June 1st. This is due to annual pavement maintenance. Expect increased traffic and parking restrictions at both lira and lirf due to the Pope’s passing. TXKF, Bermuda, will be closed nightly from 02z until 10z until the 26th of April. The G7 summit will take place in Calgary Alberta, CYYC, from June 15th until June 17th. Expect a significant increase in traffic during this time period. Finally special air traffic procedures have been issued for the IND area for the Indy 500 which will take place from 05/22 to 05/25. Also, at IND runway 05L/23R will be closed until the 31st of OCT, however two runways do remain open.
Critical weather days / geomagnetic storm outlook – no critical weather days are anticipated through Friday. A G2 (moderate) geomagnetic storm is ongoing currently and that should end sometime today. No geomagnetic storms are forecast for Thursday and Friday.
Tropical cyclone outlook – all is quiet which is normal for this time of year.
CONUS severe weather outlook – a slight risk exists today from Western TX to extreme SW KS. Chances for more widespread severe thunderstorms appear to ramp up early next week with the passage of a slow-moving cold front and upper-level trough.
Europe outlook – on Thursday at 12z a deep low will be located 700 miles WNW of Shannon, Ireland with a cold front approaching Ireland at this time. On Friday the cold front will move slowly East and be located from Eastern Ireland to NW Portugal at that time. Also on Thursday, a broad upper-level trough, from Switzerland to Greece will help promote fairly widespread daytime showers and isolated thunderstorms over this region through Friday.
North Atlantic jet stream forecast – a fairly zonal flow will be noted on Friday with the primary jet from Lake Superior to Nova Scotia to the Bay of Biscay with velocities around 75 knots. Much lighter winds will persist generally North of 50N due to the presence of an upper level low to the South of Greenland.
