Good Wednesday Morning,
Biggest concern this morning will be the effects of cold arctic high pressure building down into the Northern US over the weekend and the over running precipitation which will result in widespread heavy snow and freezing rain from Texas to the NE USA by Sunday. The widespread nature of this event will create travel issues over much of this region with significant delays expected at the major hubs and smaller GA airports. I have included a few images from the latest EURO model for reference. Delays may extend into the NE USA even on Monday on the back side of the low with periods of snow.
Critical weather days / geomagnetic storm outlook – G3 geomagnetic storm will end at 1800z today. Critical weather days are likely beginning on Friday through the weekend.
CONUS severe weather outlook – no severe weather outbreaks are expected through the end of the weekend.
Tropical weather outlook – TC Ewetse, 210 miles SE of Europa Island will approach the SW Coast of Madagascar today. TC 16P, 335 miles WNW of Noumea, New Caledonia, will move very quickly to the SE over the next few days and gradually weaken passing well to the South of Fiji.
Europe outlook – on Friday, a very deep area of low pressure, 200 miles SE of Cork, Ireland will move slowly to the North by Saturday, bringing gusty winds to NW France, UK and Ireland on Friday. On Saturday drier air will move into the UK while periods of rain and gusty winds are likely over Ireland and Northern Ireland. The upper-level ridge that has dominated much of Central and Eastern Europe will gradually weaken from Friday onward.
North Atlantic jet stream analysis – Hudson Bay low remains firmly in place on Friday; thus, a very strong zonal jet stream pattern will continue with velocities in excess of 150 knots.
