Good Friday Morning,

Look for increased traffic in the SFO bay area next week in anticipation of the big game. Very deep area of low pressure will bring heavy snow to NC/SC and Cape Cod from Saturday through Sunday. Expect significant delays (unless many flights are cancelled) at the major airports in NC on Saturday where winter storm warnings remain in effect. From Sunday night through Monday night this storm will be a high impact event for the Canadian Maritime provinces. Also, expect gale force winds gusts at Bermuda through early Monday morning.

Critical weather days / geomagnetic storm outlook – critical weather days are possible on Saturday and Sunday in support of winter storm ops across the Southern Appalachians and the Southern Mid-Atlantic. No geomagnetic storms are forecast.

CONUS severe weather outlook – no severe weather outbreaks are expected through the middle of next week at the earliest.

Tropical weather outlook – TC Fytia, 120 miles ESE of Nacala, Mozambique, will make landfall over NW Madagascar in the next 18 hours then pass well to the Southwest of Mauritius on Tuesday as a strong tropical storm. Invest area 98P, 140 miles west of Mornington Island, Australia, has a medium chance of developing over the next day or so. The latest operational EURO model interestingly develops this system over land and shows it intensifying by the middle of next week over NW Australia as it moves back over water.

Europe outlook – on Sunday, a mature cyclone will be located midway between Sicily and Western Greece accompanied by periods of showers and higher elevation snows. Strong high pressure will ridge into much of Northern Europe with the center located to the NE of Helsinki. On Monday a strong cold frontal system and very cold air aloft will bring heavy rain and mountain snows to Portugal, Spain, and Morocco.

North Atlantic jet stream analysis – an upper-level trough over Quebec to the DC area will allow for a fairly strong Southwesterly Jet to persist from Florida to Newfoundland to the Canary Islands. This pattern will likely continue on Monday.
