Aviation Weather September 18, 2024

Good Wednesday Morning!

Thanks to the upper-level ridge over the Northern UK and the upper-level low over the Bay of Biscay look for very good wind factors on the West bound flights through at least Sunday. VDPP (Phnom Penh Cambodia) will be closed nightly from 19-23z until 22 Sept. TVSC (Canouan) remains closed until the 18th of Oct per notam A1674/24. Daily between 07 and 11z look for significant airspace closures in the Central Pacific per KZAK notam A3806/24 due to Russian rocket firings. Surface to unlimited.

Two-week tropical outlook – into next week look for above average chances of TC development in the Western Pacific, and over the Western Caribbean which will have to be watched carefully early to the middle of next week.

Tropical outlook

West Pacific / Indian Ocean basin – not concerned about TD 16W. TS Pulasan, 190 miles SE of Kadena AFB is moving quickly to the NNW at 20 knots. This large monsoon depression will make landfall Thursday afternoon as a moderately strong tropical storm then weaken rapidly to the Southwest of Shanghai.

Eastern Pacific- Atlantic – Eastern Pacific – no concerns in the Eastern Pacific. Broad low pressure may form in the Northwestern Caribbean Sea early next week, East of Belize. It is still too early to tell if it will impact the Gulf of Mexico.

US Severe weather outlook – today and tomorrow will feature a slight risk of severe thunderstorms over the North Central US, thereafter predictability becomes too low in the extended portion of the forecast.

Europe outlook – through Friday most areas in Europe, North of 50N, will be dominated by an upper-level ridge with little in the way of significant weather. Areas to the South of this will be under the influence of several weak upper level and surface low pressure areas with favored areas of showers and isolated thunderstorms from Spain to Italy to Turkey. Chances for snowfall remain very low for the next 10 days at least.
