Notices Regarding the Commemoration of the 80th Anniversary of D-Day and the Battle of Normandy

In 2024, Normandy will commemorate and celebrate the 80th anniversary of D-Day and the Battle of Normandy. Several events will take place all year; however, the key event will be held on D-Day, June 6th, 2024.

The official website for this esteemed event is: https://80e-normandie.fr/en

The French government announced that this major event will take place at Saint Laurent sur Mer, near Omaha Beach (which was the American sector).

On that day, numerous Heads of State and Government Representatives from a wide variety of nations will be present, including France, United States, UK, among others. Over 17 countries have been represented in previous D-Day commemorations.

During the timeframe surrounding the events, Normandy will be under close security as a large number of people are expected.

If your plans include participating in this event or traveling within the region during this time, meticulous and early organization will be needed regarding local transportation and accommodations. Hotels may become sold out due to the expected presence of the many Heads of State and their traveling teams.

Regional airports are also expected to have more traffic than usual, and some may have strong restrictions due to VVIP aircrafts.

Normandy Airports

Caen / LFRK, Deauville / LFRG, Le Havre / LFOH, Cherbourg / LFRC

At this time no restrictions have been published; however, we anticipate some airports will have closure, parking, and operations restrictions, especially with Caen / LFRK, being often used by the US Airforce VIP fleet. No-fly zones over the ceremonies are also to be planned.

The major alternate remain Paris – Le Bourget Airport / LFPB. Normandy is located approximately a 2.5-hour drive from Paris. Aircraft parking will be easier in LFPB.
