Nighttime Summer Hours and Restrictions for London’s Luton Airport (EGGW)

(May 2025)

For our clients wanting to operate into London during nighttime hours (2300L – 0659 hrs local),  we have good news:

Unlike previous years (where Luton / EGGW has been heavily restricted between June 1st and September 30th), this year they have managed to remove the full Ad-Hoc ban and remain in 24-Hr operation status until June 14th.

Between June 14th and September 17th, EGGW will be providing a pool of 100 slots for use by Ad-Hoc operators. This pool can be used by commercial operators, General Aviation and Maintenance flights.

It’s valuable to point out that to operate within these timeframes, it’s important to get a request into FPI’s Operations as soon as possible, since demand will likely be high and availability will be on a first-come-first-served basis.

You will need to provide a noise certificate as everyone will be required to reduce the Quota Count (QC) usage as much as possible. No slot application will be available for anyone with a QC rating higher than 0.5. Since most of our General Aviation operators fall into to a QC rating of 0.25 or lower, we are confident your aircraft will be accepted if slots are available.

With Stansted, Gatwick, and Heathrow unavailable during this same period, we can recommend further option for our clients.

Southend / EGMC is the remaining  option for central London. This year, EGMC has extended their hours of operation with ATC, FBO, and Customs in order to be open from 0500 UTC to 0030 UTC, 7 days a week.

ATC extension between 0030 UTC and 0500 UTC can be requested; however, they will require as much notice as possible in order to accommodate. Please note, overtime is not always a guaranteed approval.

Due to the short runway, EGMC may only be suitable for a drop and reposition the following day.

Drive time from EGMC to Central London is approximately 1hr 30mins, without traffic. Drive time during peak hours can be up to 2hrs.

If you do wish to operate within any of the timeframes listed above this Summer, please reach out to FPI’s UK Operations Team ([email protected]) and we will find the very best options available for your flights.
