Good Friday Morning!
Nice (LFMN) continues to be very busy this summer with the Ironman World Championship taking place this weekend. Very busy Friday is expected in Europe with around 37,000 flights planned. Expect significant delays and TFR’s on July 4th in the vicinity of NYC association with the America 250 flyovers. Timing looks to be from 0730am until noon EDT. On Canada day, July 1st expect a presidential TFR in the vicinity of Bismarck ND. More details to be revealed early next week. Going to be busy in the UK over the next few weeks with Wimbledon from June 29th through July 12th and the British Grand Prix from July 2nd until July 5th. A very strong and cold core upper-level low will bring the possibility of high elevation snow through early next week in portions of the Tetons and the Northern Rockies with the freezing level around 6,500 feet.
A critical weather day will be in effect through 12z Saturday to support fire wx ops over the Southwest US. No geomagnetic storms expected through Sunday.
CONUS severe weather outlook – on Saturday, slight risks exist from Eastern MT to Central ND and for a small portion of SE VA and NE NC. On Sunday, Eastern ND and Northern MN will be in a slight risk area with large hail and severe winds the primary hazards. On Monday this area will shift east towards Northern and Central MN.
Tropical weather outlook – Weak TS Mekkhala, 740 miles SW of Yokosuka, Japan is completed devoid of any convection. It will bring heavy rain and thunderstorms to the Tokyo area through 12z Saturday, however forecasted winds will remain well below TS force. Weak TS Higos, 500 miles SW of Yokosuka, Japan is also lacking significant convection. It will pass very close to the Tokyo area around 21z today. No concerns in the East Pacific or Atlantic basins.
Europe outlook – red heat alerts continue for portions of England today. These will be downgraded on Saturday to amber heat warnings On Sunday, a strong cold front will be pushing through the UK to NW Portugal. This will usher in a cooler airmass with the core of the heat remaining from Southern France to Southern Finland. On Monday the heat ridge will be centered over Poland to Romania with a cooler airmass pushing into much of Western Europe. Monday could be an interesting day across Central Europe in terms of delays with fairly good coverage of thunderstorms expected after 12z.
