King Charles III’s Coronation Expected To Impact London Aviation Operations

King Charles III’s coronation will take place on Saturday, 06 May 2023, at Westminster Abbey in London.

Many heads of state and royals from around the world are expected to attend and airports will likely run out of parking. All of our usual GA-friendly airports in London (Luton, Farnborough, Stansted, Biggin Hill) ran out of parking for the Queen’s funeral last year, and we expect the same scenario to happen for King Charles’ coronation.

We also expect hotels in central London to run out of rooms, since the UK public and tourists from all over the world are likely to attend the festivities. Many concerts, events, and celebrations are planned for that weekend.

In addition, 01 May and 08 May are public holidays which are likely to add to the travel chaos. It’s best to advise any operators considering early-May London aviation operations to book early.

Clients visiting during the coronation weekend 5-8th May are advised to utilize hotels near airports due to road closures and security measures in place in central London.
