Aviation Weather January 29, 2025

Good Wednesday Morning!

RKJB (Muan Intl) South Korea remains closed until the 17th of April after the accident on 12/29/24. If you are heading to the big game next week you should be familiar with the requirements, routes etc by way of this website: https://lnkd.in/gqaMEa6x. File flight plans at least six hours but not more than 24 hours ahead of time. OTBD, Doha, Qatar, has construction going on now until 04/25. Airport is VFR only and no IFR procedures are available. Please check the notams carefully. Russian rocket firings will affect the NOPAC routes 0030-1830z until the 30th of January. No weather data is currently available for South Africa UFN. No critical weather days or geomagnetic storms are forecast through Friday. It should be noted that flood watches remain in effect for much of Hawaii through Friday morning as an upper-level trough disrupts the trade winds.

Tropical outlook

South Indian Ocean – TC 11S, 400 miles SE of Diego Garcia is moving very slowly to the SW. Current indication is that the cyclone will not increase dramatically in strength as it approaches Mauritius on the 03rd of February. TC 12S, Elvis, 200 miles SE of Europa Island, is moving WNW at 10 knots. This system is not expected to affect any land masses per the latest forecast.

CONUS severe weather outlook – day 2, Thursday, will have the best chances for severe thunderstorms over portions of SE Texas into the lower Mississippi valley.

Europe outlook – overall a quieter weather pattern is setting up for the next few days. An upper level and surface low will be present on Thursday offshore NE Spain, and this will create periods of showers through Friday for Southern France into Northern Italy. Snowfall amounts in the Alps will remain fairly light through Monday.

North Atlantic jet stream forecast – an upper-level trough near YFB and another one from over the Western Mediterranean Sea will allow the primary jet to lie from Southern Ontario to NW of the Azores to Iceland. This overall weather pattern is unlikely to change by Saturday.
