(February 2026)
FPI consistently watches for areas of operational surprises that may impact client experiences and/or costs, and there are two particular categories that could arise when flying into London’s Luton (EGGW) airport. Please let us know if you have any questions or concerns about the following parameters:
Non-Allocated Slot Charges
Luton Airport has begun enforcing a strict zero-tolerance policy regarding slot compliance. Compliance is now assessed exclusively based on block times, rather than takeoff or landing times. Penalties for non-compliance range from formal warnings to fines as follows:
£5,000 (approximately USD 7,000) fee for the first non-allocated slot movement between the hours of 07:01 to 22:59 (Local Time) in any 12-month period undertaken by the Aircraft Operator;
£10,000 (approximately USD 14,000) fee for the second and each subsequent non-allocated slot movement between the hours of 07:01 to 22:59 (Local Time) in any 12-month period undertaken by that Aircraft Operator;
£10,000 (approximately USD 14,000) fee for the first non-allocated slot movement between the hours of 23:00 to 07:00 (Local Time) in any 12-month period undertaken by that Aircraft Operator; and
£20,000 (approximately USD 27,000) fee for the second and each subsequent non-allocated slot movement between the hours of 23:00 to 07:00 (Local Time) in any 12-month period undertaken by that Aircraft Operator.
The airport authority is applying these measures rigorously, and operators should not expect informal flexibility. Any schedule adjustments must be coordinated and approved in advance.
Out of Schedule Landing Charges
Operators should also be aware of significant Out of Schedule Landing Charges. If a slot was originally allocated to an Aircraft Operator for that aircraft to land at the airport between the hours of 06:00 to 23:29 (Local Time – “Allocated Day Slot”), and the landing in connection with the use of that slot occurs between the hours of 05:59 and 23:30 (Local Time – “Out of Schedule Landing”), charges are calculated as follows:
£10,000 (approximately USD 14,000) fee for the first Out of Schedule Landing in any 12-month period undertaken by that Aircraft Operator; and
£20,000 (approximately USD 27,000) fee for the second Out of Schedule Landing in any 12-month period undertaken by that Aircraft Operator.
