Airport Recommendations for Travelers to Sao Paulo

For clients flying into the Sao Paulo area, Sao Paulo Catarina International Executive Airport (SBJH) can be an excellent alternative to Sao Paulo Guarulhos International Airport (SBGR).

Although estimates can differ significantly pending time of day, the list below describes typical drive-time estimates to downtown Sao Paulo for the four major Sao Paulo airports:

  • Catarina/SBJH(International airport)
    • Without traffic: 30-45 minutes
    • With traffic: 1.5 hours
    • (Note: Helicopter to downtown Sao Paulo: 15 minutes)
  • Guarulhos/SBGR  – (International airport)
    • Without traffic: 45 minutes
    • With traffic: 1.5 to 2 hours
  • Campinas/SBKP(International airport)
    • Without traffic: 1.5 hours
    • With traffic: 2.5 hours
  • Congonhas/SBSP  – (Domestic only airport)
    • Without traffic: 25 minutes
    • With traffic: 45 minutes

Pros and cons of utilizing SBJH:

Pros:

  • 24-hour operation without constrained capacity and congestion
  • No airport slots required
  • Exclusively designed for Executive Aviation
  • Airport has its own ATC and Navigational Aids
  • The executive terminal has been designed with efficiency in mind, with onsite CIQ processing and inspection equipment to make luggage and crew/passenger processing safer and faster
  • 2,470m (8,100 ft) long runway
  • Capable of receiving large business jets, such as Bombardier Global 7500 and 8000 models, Dassault Falcon Jet’s Falcon 6X and 8X, Embraer Legacy 650, and Lineage and Gulfstream’s G650
  • Has ample parking space with 538,000 sq. ft. of hangar space and 538,000 sq. ft. of apron space
  • Maintenance Repair Operations (MRO) and hangars for customer service and overnight stays

Cons:

  • Per day parking fee is extremely high

SBJH compared to SBGR:

SBJH offers an executive level appeal due to its brand-new infrastructure with comfort and convenience in mind.

With minimal airport traffic and ample parking space available, SBJH airport makes traveling to Sao Paulo a breeze when compared to the busy, congestive elements for which SBGR is known, specifically such as the lack of available airport slots and parking spaces.

For flights operating to Sao Paulo for one-to-two-day stays, the pricing between the two airports is very comparable.

For stays longer than two days, the cost for parking at SBJH becomes a bit overwhelming, making SBGR a better option in those cases.
