Aviation Weather June 22, 2026

Good Monday Morning!

Deep low-pressure area will pass to the South of Perth, Australia later on this week bringing heavy rain and gusty winds to extreme SW Australia. Snow drought continues over SE Australia and Tasmania with no snow forecast for at least the next seven days. Ground stops/delays are anticipated for many of the East coast Terminals after noon today in association with thunderstorms as a cold front pass through the area.

No critical weather days are in effect through Wednesday. No geomagnetic storms expected.

CONUS severe weather outlook – next three days will feature slight risks. Today, the main axis will be over the Mid Atlantic to AR then over portions of the central and Northern High plains. On Tuesday and Wednesday the most likely areas of severe thunderstorms will be over the central high plains including the Denver area.

Tropical weather outlook – Typhoon Mekkhala, located 520 miles South of Kadena AFB has intensified 50 knots in 24 hours under nearly ideal upper atmospheric conditions. It will come within 50 miles of Kadena AFB on 06/26 at 03z as a CAT 1 cyclone. It will pass well to the East of Taiwan. It could bring heavy rain and gusty winds to Japan on Friday as the system becomes extratropical.

Europe outlook – estofex has issued a level one alert for severe thunderstorms for Tuesday from Northern Italy to Bulgaria for heavy rain, hail and gusty winds. Main story across the continent will be the extreme heat through at least Friday from France and England to Germany as an anomalous upper-level ridge persists. UK Met office has issued a rare red extreme heat warning with June’s all-time daily record will be broken. Amber heat alerts are in effect for today and Tuesday. Temperatures on Wednesday and Thursday could exceed 38C (100F) and with relatively high dewpoints this will feel very uncomfortable with little relief at night. Not sure how this will affect performance numbers if you are departing from the London area on the longer-range flights during this time period. I have included a few images with expected 2m temperatures during the afternoon hours knowing that these numbers typically underestimate the heat and do not reflect the actual max temperatures.
