Awarding-winning facilities at Farnborough Airport

Europe’s leader for premium travel connectivity

Farnborough Airport is the home of British aviation and Europe’s leading airport for premium travel connectivity. With its proximity to the M3 motorway, it offers exceptional access to London and beyond, while its 800-plus direct international connections make it the only dedicated airport of its kind.

This year, the airport retained its number one ranking in the Aviation International News (AIN) International Fixed Based Operator (FBO) Survey, winning the top title in the Europe, Middle East, Africa, and Asia Pacific category for the sixteenth year running.

The terminal is efficiently designed for both passengers and crew, with relaxing multiple passenger lounges, including refreshments and dedicated shower rooms, should passengers want to further freshen up.

Upon arrival, passengers can look forward to dedicated concierge service. For those with four legged friends, the airport’s pet travel scheme allows cats and dogs to travel safely with their owners without going into quarantine.

Owners can drive their vehicle straight onto the tarmac to their aircraft, without even leaving their car, providing a completely seamless travel experience (for aircraft under a certain weight).

In 2018, Farnborough Airport became the first business aviation airport to achieve carbon neutral status.

In 2021, Farnborough became an early adopter of Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) – which can reduce life cycle CO2 emissions by up to 80% and is available to all aircraft.

Then in June 2022, Farnborough committed to some of the most ambitious aviation-related environmental targets possible by launching its Net Zero Roadmap, which outlines that by 2030 or sooner, the airport is committed to be Net Zero across its controllable emissions. This will result in a 91% reduction of these emissions. Farnborough’s Roadmap to Net Zero by 2030 highlights its aim of becoming a sustainability showcase for airports around the world.

Farnborough became the first airport in the world to offer SAF at the same price as standard Jet A1 fuel during its promotion of SAF for a two week trial period, leading up to the globally renowned Farnborough International Airshow.

In striving to become a global showcase for sustainability, Farnborough Airport also aims to maintain its position as a thriving hub of international connectivity, as CEO Simon Geere explains: “We want to lead by example and set new standards,” he said. “And we want our customers to choose Farnborough Airport not only because of our market leading facilities and award-winning levels of customer care, but also because of our unrivaled sustainability credentials. Along with our outstanding service, attention to detail and infrastructure, we’re known for the scale of investment we commit to the airport to constantly improve our facilities and service.”

The airport’s new £55m hangar Domus III illustrates this. It will be rated by BREEAM — the world’s leading sustainability assessment method for infrastructure and buildings — and is part of a wider plan to continuously improve the customer experience at Farnborough Airport.

Construction began in August, with the idea of the hangar conceived in response to the growing demand for premium hangar space. The airport will remain fully operational throughout the anticipated 75-week construction program. The state-of-the-art, sustainably designed, hangar facility is designed for the next generation of business aircraft, including the growing presence of electric vertical take-off and landing (eVTOL) aircraft.

Located in a prime position adjacent to the airport’s two main taxiways, it complements the airport’s existing award-winning architecture and state-of-the-art facilities. It will increase Farnborough Airport’s hangar space by over 70% by providing 175,000 square feet of hangarage. Tailored and dedicated to the needs of today’s business aviation community, Farnborough Airport’s uniquely integrated FBO facilities, ground handling, and fueling services make the airport a “stand-out” among its competitors, delivering a truly outstanding trip management product.
