Bringing a Dog Into the U.S.:  More to Know

(May 2025)

The U.S. Department of Agriculture’s (USDA) Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service (APHIS) has requirements for dogs entering the U.S. coming from countries affected by foot and mouth disease (FMD) or screwworm.

You can check this link, Dog Imports: Check Country Disease Status, to see the status of the country you are coming from.

If the country in question is “not free” of FMD and/or screwworm, you can see the USDA APHIS requirements via this link Bring a Pet Dog into the United States.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) requirements regarding rabies remain in place. Please see our previous article, Bringing a Dog Into the US: Requirements, Waiver Information, and Guidance Documents, which has been updated with the latest information.eds.
