(April 2025)
Although the Spring season is just beginning, now is the time to focus on events that will impact airports located near the French Riviera at the beginning of Summer.
Cannes Film Festival:
This year’s Cannes Film Festival will take place from May 13th to May 24th in the City of Cannes. More information can be found at the event website: https://www.festival-cannes.com/en/
Formula 1 Grand Prix Race in Monaco:
The Formula 1 GP will be in Monaco from May 22nd to May 25th (with the actual race happening on the 25th). More information can be found here: https://monaco-grandprix.com/en/
Third United Nations Oceans Conference:
A major UN conference will take place in Nice from May 28th to June 13th. Heads of state will likely be present with their flights having priority status. For more information, visit: https://unocnice2025.org/en/
We highly recommend that you plan your visit in advance as these events will bring many people to the region, and hotels in the area will be sold out very quickly.
Affected Airports:
Cannes / LFMD
During this period, LFMD is slot coordinated with aircraft allowed at a maximum of 35 tons.
Parking can be difficult. Drop-and-go is possible, but note that repositioning to Nice / LFMN is not authorized during that period — other airports in the area are to be used.
Nice / LFMN
As with the rest of the year, LFMN airport is slot coordinated and parking is an issue despite the facility having a large quantity of parking earmarked for business aviation.
Slots / PPR and parking should be requested as soon as possible as the airport has already opened the slot system, and availability is based on a first-come-first-served basis. Note that even if your slot are reserved, final PPR and parking confirmations will only be given a few days before the flight.
Also be advised that any change to your schedule will require you to have your slots/parking updated and with this, you are bumped back to the bottom of the list in their system. Please ask your FPI Team before making any changes.
With Nice being a busy airport servicing an increasing quantity of large airliners, refueling is a regular issue and high delays can be possible. FPI and our handlers will advise the best possible options for the refueling process to mitigate the delays and serve your operational needs.
Alternate airports:
Marseille / LFML has good parking options as well as good hotels in the city, but like LFMN airliner activity is high with priority on services.
Le Castellet / LFMQ is also a good alternate, but flights outside Schengen area are not allowed, which can limit the possibilities.
Avignon / LFMV has also good parking options. CIQ is present but not at all times, so it is a good option to secure your parking.
Further away are Montpellier / LFMT and Nimes / LFTW, which are also good possibilities.
Genoa / LIMJ also remains also a good alternate for LFMN during this period.
